How to Change DNS Servers and Speed Up Downloads
Switching DNS servers on a router can also speed up website access and provide better security for your network connections. Switch to a third-party DNS server from Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8).
How to Change DNS on Your Router:
On Your Router DNS Setup Guide
Accessing Router Settings:
- Sign in to the router.
- Open a web browser. Enter the router's IP address in the address bar, which is typically 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
- "admin" and "admin" to enter the settings.
Finding the DNS Section:
- Find the network settings, such as LAN or WAN (these vary depending on the router's manufacturing interface).
- Locate the field "DNS" or "DNS Servers."
Setting DNS Servers:
- Put 1.1.1.1 as your primary DNS server.
- Use 8.8.8.8 as secondary DNS server (where provided).
Saving Settings:
- Click on "Save" or "Apply" to take action.
- If necessary, reboot the router to apply your changes.
All your devices connected to your router will now use the DNS servers you set.
